The powerful vision of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has allowed astronomers to study for the first time the layer-cake structure of the atmosphere of a planet orbiting another star. Hubble discovered a dense upper layer of hot hydrogen gas where the super-hot planet's atmosphere is bleeding off into space.
This is an artist's illustration of the extrasolar planet, designated HD 209458b, which is unlike any world in our solar system. It completes an orbit around its host star every 3.5 days. It is about the size of Jupiter. Unlike Jupiter, HD 290458b is so hot that its atmosphere is "puffed up." Starlight is heating the planet's atmosphere, causing hot gas to escape into space. Astronomers used Hubble to analyze the starlight that filtered through the planet's atmosphere. Imprinted on the starlight is information about the atmosphere's structure and chemical makeup.

Dusty Stellar Nursery Revealed
How can something as big as a star go undetected? The answer is dust. Stellar nursery DR21 is shrouded in so much space dust that no visible light escapes it. By seeing in the infrared, NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope pulls this veil aside. The new observations reveal a firework-like display of massive stars surrounded by a stormy cloud of gas and dust. The biggest star is estimated to be 100,000 times as bright as our own sun.

카푸치노를 더블로 시켜놓고 하루 계획, 일주일 계획, 한 달 계획.
이리저리 머리를 굴리며 시간을 쪼개다 보니 어느새 자리가 꽉 차버렸는지 방황하는 사람들이 눈에 들어오기 시작하더라. 문득 이번에 대구갔을때 양배추의 말이 생각나서 혼자 큭큭거리며 어찌나 웃었는지..;;

잠시 후 둥그러니 넓게 퍼지는 동심원이 그들의 위치를 알려준다.
저녁해가 산등성이로 넘어간지도 한참...
조용히 여기저기서 물안개가 피어오르기 시작하는 광경을 넋놓고 보고 있으려니 바람이 보인다.
아아... 저렇게 움직이고 있구나, 싶다.
내 손에 닿여 서걱이는 마른 풀소리가 좋아 자꾸 부비적거린다.
몸을 낮추면 낮출수록 세상의 거대함이 더 크게 다가온다.
동시에 갈대끝에 붙어있던 엄청난 수의 진딧물을 발견하고선 질겁을 하고 뒤로 물러났다. -_-
여전히 자연에 동화되고자 하는 마음은 욕심일 뿐이다.
혹시나 옷에 옮겨붙진 않았을까 하는 마음에 탈탈 털고있는 모습이라니...;
과천에 다다랐을 때쯤 올려다 본 하늘엔 시리우스를 비롯 겨울철 별자리들이 듬성듬성 수놓여 있었는데, 잠시 고개를 돌려 올려다 본 산마루 쪽에서 내얼굴만한 초록빛 별똥별이 길게 꼬리를 늘어뜨린채로 서서히 사라지는게 보였다. 완전 횡재~ +_+ 이렇게 행복할 수가!!!! 이걸로 세번째다. 무지 커다랗고 밝게 빛나는데다 천천히 떨어지는 별똥별을 보는게 말야. 무지 기분이 좋아져서 막 소리쳤는데 다행히 주위에 아무도 없었다 ㅋㅋㅋ (뭐, 아무렴 있으면 어때? 하는 심정이었지만.;)
그나저나 다음엔 꼭 사진기와 트라이포드를 가져가야겠어.
매번 귀차니즘에 놓고 갔더니 아쉬운 순간이 너무 많더라고.

가끔, 어쩌면 종종 정답을 알고 있는 질문을 할 때가 있다.
혼자 묻고 혼자 대답하고 이유를 대고 항변하고.
답은 정해져있는데 가는 길은 매번 다른 이유는 무엇 때문일까?
